il Gusto Cast Iron Is Easy to Maintain

Cast iron cookware was popular among homemakers during the first half of the 20th century. It's durable and reliable. Most households had at least one cast-iron cooking pan. A properly seasoned cast iron give good service for over a hundred years or more.

Scrub

After every usage of il Gusto Cast Iron, wipe the surface clean using paper towels to remove excess food and oil. Rinse it under warm water and wipe it with sponge. To remove the stubborn bits, add a teaspoon of coarse sea salt or kosher salt, scrubbing it with non-metal brush or non-abrasive scrub pad. Then rinse out the salt and wash the pan with warm water. Boiling water in the pan may also loosened the stubborn food.

Dry

Dry the il Gusto Cast Iron thoroughly with a dry cloth or paper towel after washing. Water is the enemy for cast iron as it can start the process of oxidation which may causes the cast iron to be rust. The best and fastest way to dry the pan is place it on the stove over a low heat. The heat speed up the evaporation, guaranteeing that the pan is completely dry.

Season

Each il Gusto Cast Iron come with pre-seasoning. If you rarely use it, advisable to season it once a month. Simply apply a light layer of oil to the pan, use a paper towel to rub the oil over the entire surface evenly until the surface looks dark and smooth and no residue oil remains. Oil the inside and outside of the surface to prevent rust and creating a non-stick surface.

Bake

Place the oiled il Gusto Cast Iron upside down in an oven and put the aluminium foil under it to catch the drips. Set the oven to 325°F (180 °C) and bake for one hour. Turn off the oven and keep the cast iron inside it until it reach room temperature. Once it's cool down, store the cast iron in a dry place.
